What Does a Podiatrist Do?

A Podiatrist is a qualified allied health practitioner, educated and trained in foot, heel and ankle pain, skin, toenails and orthotics/insoles. Podiatry includes all aspects of foot health, from the outer layers of your skin to the inner workings of your joints. These are a few typical conditions a podiatrist can treat.

  • Foot and ankle pain. Podiatrists will help to identify the cause of the foot or ankle pain. We often use an X-ray or MRI to support the diagnosis. Our Podiatrists will provide solutions to improve the foot or ankle pain and get you functioning again.
  • Skin and nails. Podiatrists treat many skin conditions such as cracked heels, corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, and warts. Your Podiatrist will professionally treat your toenails and use medical grade equipment to soften the cracked tough skin on your feet.
  • Warts. We offer SWIFT wart treatment for foot warts. This is a scientifically proven treatment for plantar/foot warts. Sometimes we may still use liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy) for treating warts.
  • Orthotics and insoles. Your Podiatrist is an expert in prescribing custom orthotics or insoles. They are custom made for your feet and aid in managing the causes of the pain you may have when walking and running.
